Man drowns while saving grandchildren from temple pond

GURUVAYUR: A man drowned to death while saving his grandchildren who fell into a temple pond. The deceased has been identified as Raveendranathan (70) died of Kapathi in in Guruvayur's Thiruvenkidam. The incident took place at 6 am in the Guruvayur Thiruvenkatachalapathi temple pond.

Raveendranathan and his daughter's sons, Arjun and Adithyan, were taking a bath when Arjun's leg got stuck in the sand and he drowned in the pool. Adithya, who came to rescue, also drowned. Neither knew how to swim. Raveendranathan jumped into the pond to save both of them and drowned. The children's father, Vijayakumar (Biju), who was also a temple employee and was working in the temple at the time, came running after hearing the commotion and saw the children drowning. He immediately jumped and brought the children to the shore. It was the children who told them about their grandfather falling into the pond. During the subsequent search, Raveendranathan was brought ashore and taken to Muthuvattur Raja Hospital with the help of Acts workers, but he died. Arjun was admitted to Hyatt Hospital in Chavakkad and has overcome the dangerous phase. Raveendranathan is a retired employee of Guruvayur Devaswom. Police said the cause of death was a heart attack while falling into the water. Wife: Radha. Children: Ramya (Chavakkad Rural Bank Director), Ratheesh.
