KOLKATA: Police have started an investigation into the incident of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee getting injured in a strange accident. The police decided to take up the investigation after Mamata Banerjee harboured doubts about somebody pushing her from behind which she believes led to the accident.
SSKM hospital director Mrinmay Bandyopadhyay earlier sided with Mamata Banerjee’s suspicion as he tacitly approved the accident to have been the result of a push from behind. However now, the director went back on his words as he said the suspicion may have emerged from just a thought.
Mamata Banerjee's forehead hit the glass showcase when she fell in the living room of her residence on Thursday evening. The hospital authorities informed that Mamata Banerjee received three stitches on her forehead and one stitch on her nose in the accident. Mamata Banerjee's nephew Abhishek Banerjee, sister-in-law Kajari Banerjee and a few relatives were present at the residence when the incident took place.
Despite being Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee lives in her family home in Kalighat, West Bengal. Mamata's small house is located on Harish Chatterjee Street, which is mostly occupied by commoners. Earlier too, Mamata refused the police's request to move out from her ancestral house citing security reasons. Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal announced that security has been tightened at the Chief Minister's residence.
