THIRUVALLA: Rescue efforts are underway to bring back a Malayali woman who is stranded on the Lobuche mountain range in Nepal during a trekking expedition. The woman has been identified as Seena Sara Majnu (41), a member of the Katoor family in Manjadi, Thiruvalla. In videos shared on social media, Seena said she had fallen while descending the mountain. The accident occurred while she was navigating a difficult, snow-covered route. She also said she had injured her hand in the fall and was worried about making her way down the mountain.
Lobuche, located in Nepal's Everest region, is a popular trekking destination. Seena, an experienced mountaineer, had undertaken the climb alone. She left Kerala on October 21 and began trekking on October 23. Her husband, Majnu, said that he had spoken to her over the phone on Tuesday afternoon. During the conversation, she had told him that she would begin her descent on Wednesday. However, after learning about the accident, he tried to contact her but could not reach her.
The Indian Embassy and Nepalese authorities are coordinating rescue efforts. There are reports that Seena's location has been identified. The Indian Embassy in Kathmandu is also taking steps to speed up the rescue operation. Seena has successfully completed mountaineering expeditions in several countries.
