NEW DELHI: Reports said the number of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) cases in the country has climbed again. So far six cases have been reported in the country. Two cases were reported in Bengaluru, two in Chennai, one each in Ahmedabad and Kolkata. A five-month-old baby was infected in Kolkata in last November.
Two babies were first confirmed of the disease in Bengaluru. Later, two cases were reported in Chennai and one in Ahmedabad. Reports that came later said that it was found earlier in Kolkata too.
It has been found that the virus was originated in India as they have no history of travelling abroad. The ministry of health said there is no unusual increase in cases of respiratory diseases such as influenza.
Health experts said that there is no need to worry about the HMP virus. This is the virus found in winter. It is reported every year. Most cases of this virus are reported in the months of July and August and December and January. Health experts said that patients often have cold-like symptoms.
Health Minister Veena George had informed that there is no need to worry about reporting HMPV in India. The state had already taken action after the virus was confirmed.
