NEW DELHI: Major Rishabh Singh Sambyal, who garnered attention on social media while serving as the ADC (Aide-de-Camp) to President Droupadi Murmu, recently retired from the Indian Army. He retired after 12 years of service. His recent interview to a YouTube channel the other day has now gone viral on social media. In the interview, he spoke about his duties and clarifies the reason for his retirement.

‘The term Aide-de-Camp is taken from the French language. The duty of an ADC is to handle the President’s official as well as personal matters. The main responsibilities include managing the protocol for the President’s daily programmes and coordinating communication. ADCs cannot completely trust anyone. They work to ensure the President’s security and dignity.

When I was selected as President’s ADC and met her for the first time, I felt as though I was standing before my mother. All my three years were with the President. She treated all of us very well. I spent more time with the President than with my own mother.

There is a reason for my retirement at this age. As a son, I have certain responsibilities towards my family. I didn’t think much about them earlier. Now it is the time to fulfil all that. I am happy that I was able to serve the country for so many years.

Marriage is the sacrifice I made to become ADC. The reason I did not get married was because I was ADC. I did not have a life outside my duty. I could not go out like ordinary people. However, I did not experience much loneliness. I take that loneliness positively. Every day, I spent at least an hour alone. I learn new things at that time,’ said Rishabh Singh Sambyal.
