PATHANAMTHITTA: Two students who went for a bath drowned in the Achankovil River on Sunday. Sreesaran and Abel, 10th-class students of Arya Bharati School in Omallur, died in the incident. Sreesaran is a native of Elavumthitta while Abel hails from Cheekanal. The drastic incident took place this afternoon.

According to reports, after playing on a nearby turf, they decided to go for a bath. However, they were both novices to the river and lacked a proper understanding of the dangerous undercurrent. Soon after they entered the river, the high current swept them away in a whisker. Witnessing this, the third student who accompanied them cried for help, which alerted the locals. Despite their timely intervention, the two students could not be located.

Later, the locals informed the police and fire force. The dead bodies of both were found during the search conducted by the fire force. The bodies were shifted to the hospital.
