HYDERABAD: The government will continue with the free saree distribution scheme for women in Telangana. This is part of the Indiramma Saree Scheme started in November 2025. The government is distributing sarees in new colors and designs this time.

About 86 lakh sarees were distributed in the state last year. If it was a blue sari that was distributed last time, this time it will be a parrot green one. These sarees will also have a red border. The government has placed an order with the Telangana State Handloom Weavers Cooperative Society to manufacture one crore sarees. The government is spending about Rs 450 crore for this.

It was Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy's direction that instead of the same color and design sarees every time, different designs should be provided. The aim is to complete the production of sarees and start distribution by October. Earlier, the distribution was done in phases, but this time it is not like that. Sarees will be available everywhere at the same time, regardless of whether they are rural or urban.

The sarees are woven by weavers from various districts including Sircilla, Karimnagar and Warangal. Through this scheme, local weavers are getting a lot of relief. This will ensure employment and income for them. The government started this scheme to empower women and help local weavers.
