HARIPPAD: Following a quarrel with his wife who is a cancer patient, man was hacked to death by his brother-in-law. The deceased has been identified as Sreekumara Pillai (65), of Moonnukulangara House in Kumarapuram Erikkavu. His wife's brother Krishnan Nair (63), was arrested by the police.
The incident was around 10 pm on Friday. Sreekumara Pillai is the husband of Krishnan Nair's sister Lalitha. Sreekumara Pillai and his family used to live at his wife's house. Krishnan Nair, who was unmarried, lived with them. Sreekumara Pillai used to get drunk and quarrel with Lalitha. On Friday night, Krishnan Nair intervened in such a fight which ended in blows. In between the fight, Krishnan Nair hacked Sreekumara Pillai on his shoulder and right thigh.
Lalitha called her son-in-law and he came to the house and took the injured Sreekumara Pillai to Harippad Taluk Hospital on an ambulance. But his life couldn't be saved. Krishnan Nair stayed in the house after the incident from where he was arrested by the police. Krishnan Nair is unemployed. Sreekumara Pillai used to undertake contract works.
