Congress MLA V T Balram MLA lashed out at chief minister for the recent amendments in the Kerala police act. The MLA has expressed harsh criticisms against the law through his Facebook post. The MLA in his Facebook post has said that by imposing the law via ordinance route without presenting it before the assembly, the chief minister has shown utter disregard to democracy.
Widespread criticism is rising against the recent amendments in the Kerala police act. Some even opined that the amendments are actually meant to curb the media’s freedom. When the criticisms increased the chief minister has given the clarification that the amendments do not stand against media freedom.
His Facebook post is as follows:
"Anyone who produces content publishes or propagates it through any means of communication with an intention to threaten, insult or harm the reputation of an individual will be punished with an imprisonment of five years or a fine of Rs 10,000 or with both.”
The amendment in police act—118(a), has been imposed upon the people of Kerala via ordinance route without passing it as a law after presenting it before the assembly. If I allege through this media that communist autocrat, chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan has shown utter disregard to democracy, by imposing such a black act upon the people, will the Pinarayi police arrest us for hampering his epic- like image and impose a penalty of Rs 10,000 and five years jail on us?
