Investigation into visit of customs officer at jail to see Swapna

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Police have decided to probe the visit of a customs officer in jail to see gold smuggling case accused Swapna Suresh. Customs Superintendent Ansy Phillip visited Swapna twice in prison. The visit was in the name of handing over the order in the COFEPOSA case. She spent about five hours with Swapna on November 15. After the visit, Swapna was questioned on November 18 and arrested the next day. Ansy also arrived to record the arrest. She was then taken into custody on November 25. Police said Swapna's confession in the dollar smuggling case came after a meeting with Ansy. The secret statement of Swapna was recorded on December 3. Ansy Phillip is the accused in the 2018 gold smuggling case.
