Property dispute: Brother shot dead in Kanjirapally

KANJIRAPALLY: A younger brother was shot dead by his elder brother after a dispute over the sale of family property. His maternal uncle, 78-year old Mathews Scaria, was also shot while trying to stop him. The deceased has been identified as 50-year old Renju Kurian of Kanjirapally. His brother George Kurian, who runs several businesses including flat construction in Ernakulam, was arrested by the police. Their uncle was admitted to Lakeshore hospital after getting shot. This incident shook the entire town.

According to police, Karimbanal is a prominent family in Kanjirapally. Recently, there was a dispute between the brothers over family property. George Kurian planned to build several houses on the property and then sell them, but his brother opposed this decision.

Relatives also intervened on Monday to resolve the issue. During the discussion that took place in the hall of the house, the argument between George and Renju intensified. George getting enraged took his revolver and fired. Renju was shot on the head and died instantly. His parents were in the next room at the time of the incident.

Renju's wife is Roshini. Rose Mary, Reesa Scaria, Kurian Scaria are his children. Funeral will be held later.

District Police chief D Shilpa and Kanjirapally DYSP reached the spot and made several enquires.
