BHUBANESWAR: In a shocking incident, an abandoned iron bridge was dismantled and stolen by a group of thieves. The incident took place in Amiytawar village in Sasaram district in Bihar.

According to the police, the group of thieves, posing as officers of the Irrigation Department, dismantled the defunct bridge with the help of gas-cutters and earthmovers over three days.

The thieves even took the help of the local departmental personnel and took it off in the broad daylight, said the police.

As the 60-feet long and 12-feet high bridge was gradually being stolen, its sudden disappearance shocked everyone.

By the time the locals realised what was happening and informed the police, they had fled with the scrap, the police added.

Police have alerted the scrap dealers in the district about the incident.

The iron bridge was built over the Ara canal in Amiyavar in around 1972.
