THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former jail DGP R Sreelekha has stirred up a controversy by accusing the police of fabricating fake evidence against Dileep in the actress attack case. This is not the first time that Sreelekha is getting embroiled in a controversy after her retirement.

Sreelekha's statement that female police officers were victims of sexual exploitation and that they had been suffering severe mental torture had caused displeasure among the entire force. Sreelekha made the statement by giving an example of how a DIG once called a female SI to the police club and exploited her. Following this, the Police Officers' Association asked Sreelekha why she did not demand legal action against the DIG despite being a senior official then. The association also criticized her by pointing out that her statement was causing problems in the families of the officers who work day and night. Although the association asked her to reveal the name of the DIG who misbehaved with the female officer, Sreelekha was not ready to reveal the name.

When Sreelekha was accused of helping actor Dileep while he was on remand in the Aluva jail, she replied by saying, " I helped Dileep out of humanitarian considerations." She had also revealed that she once thought about resigning from IPS as she could not bear the mental torture in the police force and at one point she even wrote a resignation letter. "Policemen with political backing can do anything. Such officials can even rebuke higher officials, including the DGP," she said.

While she served as jail superintendent, Sreelekha courted controversy when she issued an order stating that prison officials should not call the DGP for trivial matters such as police escort of prisoners. Srilekha had issued a circular in this regard thrice within a year. Later, Rishiraj Singh reversed Srilekha's order. After retiring from service, Sreelekha revealed that she had beaten Latha Nair, the accused in the Kiliroor case.
