THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister-designate and former speaker MB Rajesh on Saturday said that AN Shamseer will have to work according to his new position. Rajesh was speaking at a press conference after resigning as Speaker.

"Shamseer was one of the foremost leaders of the ruling party in the assembly. He used to be at the forefront whenever there was a confrontation between the ruling party and the opposition in the assembly. However, when he takes up the responsibility of a Speaker he will have to act accordingly," MB Rajesh said.

"When I became the speaker, everyone said that a striker has become the referee. I never felt bad about being a referee. Not only did the opposition say nothing bad, but they also gave me the biggest approval. Similarly, Shamseer will have to rise to the task," he said.

"During my time as the Speaker, the House met for 83 days. 65 laws were passed. Was able to follow the schedule of House proceedings. I tried my best to give equal consideration to the ruling party and the opposition," he added.
