BAHRAICH: A local BJP leader and his aides thrashed a 30-year-old dalit youth, blackened his face and tonsured his head after accusing him of stealing a toilet seat from a house in the locality. The shocking incident took place last Tuesday in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh. Rajesh Kumar, a labourer, was brutally beaten for allegedly stealing the toilet seat.
The video of the attack towards the youth has been circulating on the internet for a few days.
The police have arrested two people for thrashing the dalit youth. Another accused, Radhashyam Mishra, a local BJP leader, is absconding. Bahraich ASP (Rural) Ashok Kumar said that a search has been intensified to nab Mishra.
The video circulating on social media show a group of people thrashing the youth after tying him to an electric pole. The video shows the crowd cheering on and recording videos.
A case has been registered against the accused under charges of assault, criminal intimidating and under provisions of the stringent law to punish crimes against Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
