'Over 92 lakh names deleted’: BJP government implemented SIR to capture Bengal, says Mamata

KOLKATA: Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee alleged that the Election Commission implemented the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls on the BJP government’s instructions to capture West Bengal. She also mocked Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar by calling him “Vanish Kumar” over the deletion of lakhs of names from the voter list. Mamata was speaking at a public meeting in Hooghly.

She claimed that the names of more than 92 lakh valid voters had been removed from the electoral rolls across the state. She alleged that rural voters and women were being targeted in the exercise and said her party had documents and photographs to expose irregularities in the process.

Mamata also alleged that the BJP government had failed to fulfil its promises in Bengal. She said the Trinamool Congress would continue its political and legal fight to bring out the truth about the revision of the voter list.

She had also alleged that Trinamool leaders were placed under house arrest to prevent them from attending the rally and that permission to hold the meeting had been denied. Mamata addressed public meetings after securing court permission through senior advocate Kalyan Banerjee.
