‘Gyanesh Kumar should have remained in BJP; Modi government is a model for how to act illegally’: M A Baby

NEW DELHI: CPM general secretary M A Baby has alleged that the central government made Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar carry out tasks that were not in line with his official position. He was speaking to the media following revelations concerning Gyanesh Kumar. Baby alleged that the Narendra Modi government at the Centre functioned by setting an example of how to act illegally.

“Through the SIR, people who are believed to be unlikely to vote in favour of the BJP are being removed from the electoral rolls. Gyanesh Kumar was assigned this responsibility. The INDIA bloc must intervene strongly in the issue. All opposition parties should come together to take this on. The central government is using its majority in Parliament to bring in an objectionable law, ignoring the directions of the Supreme Court,” Baby said.

Baby also said he had heard the allegations raised against Gyanesh Kumar in connection with former Chief Secretary Jiji Thomson.

“I have also heard the allegations made against Gyanesh Kumar in connection with former Chief Secretary Jiji Thomson. This reveals his character. It would have been better if he had remained in the BJP and sought higher positions there. I expect more evidence to come out in the coming days. Gyanesh Kumar has already shown what kind of officer he is,” Baby said.

Jiji Thomson has alleged that Gyanesh Kumar had asked him whether he could contest an election on a BJP ticket and had said that he could become a Union minister if he won. Jiji Thomson said he replied that he was not interested in contesting an election. According to him, the conversation took place during a flight to Delhi in 2016. Thomson made the revelation while speaking to a media outlet.
