Four arrested with 10 kg of ambergris

KOLLAM: The police seized 10 kg of ambergris (whale vomit) from a car while conducting a vehicle inspection in Karavalur. The police arrested Raghu of Thodiil house, Kannankodu Thodi in Eravipuram Thekevila, Roy Joseph of Jos Bhawan in Kavannad, Mohammad Azhar of HPF Mansil in Thekevila in Eravipuram, and Saifuddin of Ilambal House, Pallimukku, Kadaikal. The ambergris was seized while it was being transported from Tamil Nadu to Punalur for sale. The explanation of those arrested is that it were handed over for sale by a native of Tamil Nadu. The plan was to sell one kg for seven lakh rupees. An investigation has been started with the Tamil Nadu Forest Department for the Tamil Nadu native suspect. After sending a sample of whale vomit for testing, the accused were produced in court and remanded.
