NEW DELHI: Iran has closed its airspace following the increase in anti-government protests and the rising threat of attack by the US. This has also affected the services of Indian airlines. Air India, IndiGo and SpiceJet have announced that their international services have been affected by the issue. Air India has shared a note on X about the delays caused by the need to change routes and some passengers cancelling their trips due to this.

'Due to the emerging situation in Iran, the subsequent closure of its airspace, and in view of the safety of our passengers, Air India flights overflying the region are now using an alternative routing, which may lead to delays. Some Air India flights where currently rerouting is not possible are being cancelled,’ the airline said. Air India has clarified that the status of the flight should be checked before leaving for the airport and that the safety of passengers and crew is paramount.

IndiGo said that some of its services have also been affected by the situation in Iran. ‘We regret any disruption this incident may cause to passengers' travel plans. This is beyond our control. For flexible rebooking and refunds as per your preference, please visit our website.’ SpiceJet has also issued a similar notice.

Iran closed its airspace today due to the protests against Ayatollah Khamenei. The notice said that this will be till 7:30 am. The airspace was also closed during the previous Israeli attack on Iran. This was in June 2025. The website SafeAirspace, which provides information about air traffic in troubled areas, said that several airlines have canceled services to Iran. It also states that most airlines are avoiding Iranian airspace.

India had asked Indians living in Iran to get their documents cleared and leave the country as early as possible. It has also been advised to avoid traveling via Iran until further notice.
