Bangladesh roar in Darwin, Australia bowled over in historic Test upset

DARWIN: Bangladesh pulled off a stunning nine-wicket win over Australia in Darwin on Sunday to seal their first-ever Test victory on Australian soil. Having bowled Australia out for 284 in the second innings, Bangladesh were set just 57 for victory. The visitors completed the chase at 57/1 in 14.2 overs to wrap up a historic win in the opening Test of the series.

Bangladesh had put themselves firmly in the driver's seat after dismissing Australia for 198 in the first innings and piling up 426 in reply, securing a substantial 228-run lead. Their bowlers then kept Australia under pressure in the second innings before Mehidy Hasan Miraz finished the job with a five-wicket haul.

Miraz returned figures of 5-66 to claim his 15th five-wicket haul in Test cricket. His spell broke Australia's resistance as the hosts slipped from 161/4 to 284 all out.

Hasan Mahmud had already done the damage in Australia's first innings, claiming a career-best 6-55 as Bangladesh bowled the hosts out for 198. He finished with nine wickets in the match and was named Player of the Match.

Cameron Green mounted Australia's strongest resistance in the second innings, bringing up his third Test century. The all-rounder made 104 off 201 balls, but found little support as Bangladesh continued to pick up wickets at the other end.

The result completed a remarkable turnaround for Bangladesh, who had been bowled out for just 54 by a Cricket Australia XI in their warm-up match before the Test. They responded by dominating Australia across four days and securing a landmark victory in their first Test in the country in 23 years.
