Rain to continue till Monday; Delhi on alert, waterlogging and traffic disruptions likely

NEW DELHI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that heavy rain will continue across several parts of North India. Delhi is likely to receive rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds from this evening, prompting authorities to advise people to remain cautious. The intensity of rain in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) is expected to decrease by tomorrow evening.

The weather department has warned that more rain in Delhi and nearby areas could lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas and disrupt traffic. Heavy rainfall over the past few days has already affected road, rail and air services in the national capital. Several roads and residential areas remain badly waterlogged.

Water entered parts of Delhi airport following the heavy rain, forcing several flights to be diverted yesterday. With more rain expected, airlines including IndiGo have advised passengers to check their flight status before leaving for the airport.

The rising water level in the Yamuna has also led to an alert along the riverbanks. The water level near Delhi's Old Railway Bridge has been rising after additional water was released from the Hathnikund Barrage in Haryana.

Heavy rain is also continuing in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and several northeastern states are witnessing heavy rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms.
