Career-ending match in 2015, coma for 200 days; Boxing champion Prichard Colon passes away at 33

Professional boxer Prichard Colon passed away on Thursday, a decade after his career-ending injury inside the ring. He was 33. Prichard’s father, Richard Colon, revealed the news to the world with a statement: "I regret to inform you of the passing of my son Prichard from this earthly world. He is now in a better place."

The Puerto Rican boxer, considered the next big thing in the ring a decade back, holds the record of a 16-0 undefeated streak. 13 of the fights he won were by knockout.

On Oct. 17, 2015, Colon travelled to Virginia to fight Terrel Williams, but things turned catastrophic. During the fight, Colon complained to the referee that Terrel punched him in the back of the head. Very soon, Colon collapsed in the dressing room and required emergency surgery for bleeding in his brain. The boxing prodigy then went into a coma for 200 days and would not return to the ring ever.

Though he came out of the coma, the neurological damage remained. The boxing world across the globe has lost a terrific talent, and that too in the most tragic way possible.
