VATICAN CITY: Pope Leo XIV is set to undergo surgery at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital after a small nodule was detected in his lung. The Pope disclosed the development to worshippers gathered for Sunday prayers. He said the nodule had been detected at a very early stage and was confined to one area, prompting doctors to recommend surgery. The procedure is expected to take place early this week. Thanking the faithful for their spiritual solidarity, the Pope also asked them to keep him in their prayers.
Matteo Bruni, director of the Holy See Press Office, told reporters that the surgery was expected to take place early in the week. He added that the Pope was expected to remain in hospital for approximately one week after the procedure.
