UAE Vice President's brother Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum passes away; 10-day mourning declared

ABU DHABI: Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, brother of UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Dubai Ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, passed away on Monday. He was 76. Dubai has declared a 10-day mourning period from today following his death. The national flag will be flown at half-mast across the emirate during the mourning period.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum expressed condolences over his brother's death and shared a message on social media. UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan also expressed his condolences. Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum mourned the death of his uncle.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum was the fourth and youngest son of the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, the founder and former ruler of Dubai and former UAE Vice President.

He served as Deputy Chairman of Dubai Police and Public Services and was also the president of Al Wasl Sports Club. Sheikh Ahmed played a key role in establishing the Dubai International Marine Club and became its first chairman in 1988.
