PHU QUOC: A speedboat carrying Indian tourists capsized in Vietnam, killing 15 people. The accident occurred around 1 pm near Phu Quoc, Vietnam's largest island. Some are reported to be missing, and more news is awaited.
Reports indicate that the boat of Minh Huyet Phu Quoc Trading Tourism Company was involved in the accident. The accident occurred just 400 meters off Hon May Rut. The boat was ferrying tourists from Hon May Rut to An Thoi Port. There were 32 passengers and four crew members on board. It is reported that some people were rescued. The search for the remaining ones is ongoing.’
The initial conclusion is that strong winds and rough seas caused the accident. Immediately after the accident, the army, police and fishermen started rescue operations. After providing first aid, the rescued people were shifted to hospitals. It is learnt that some of them are in critical condition.
Emergency control rooms have been set up at the Indian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City and the Indian Embassy in Hanoi. Helpline numbers have also been released.
