DHAKA: A Hindu law student was abducted and beaten in Bangladesh, in yet another case of violence targeting the minority Hindu community in the country. The victim is 25-year-old Subhash Deuri. The gang abandoned the youth on the roadside and fled after taking ransom from the family.
Subhash was found injured on the roadside in Narinda, Dhaka city, early yesterday morning. He was immediately admitted to Dhaka Medical College with serious injuries to his head and limbs. Subhash, a student of Dhaka Central Law College, was working as an assistant priest at the central temple of the university.
An unknown group kidnapped Subhash on Monday night. After beating him for several hours, they called his relatives and demanded money. On Tuesday morning, Subhash was allowed to make a phone call to his sister, during which he cried and asked his family to pay the ransom for him to escape.
Subhash's mobile phone and wallet are missing. Subhash also said that the gang threatened to strip him naked and post the footage on social media. The police registered a case and started an investigation into the incident.
