ROME: Pope Leo XIV has been diagnosed with lung cancer. The Vatican medical bulletin revealed the news. The growth found in his right lung has been removed through a surgery. A medical examination found that he was affected with pulmonary adenocarcinoma.
Pulmonary adenocarcinoma is one of the most common types of lung cancer. It accounts for approximately 40 percent of all diagnosed cases. The growth and spread of these types of cancerous tumors are relatively slow. Dr Juanita Mora, National Medical Spokesperson for the American Lung Association, stated that because the cancer was detected in its early stages in the Pope's case, recovery would be faster.
