Dhanush-Mammootty starrer ‘OM’ moves away from Rajinikanth, Suriya clashes; new release date announced

Dhanush and Mammootty-starrer ‘OM Chapter 1: Udhiram - The Blood Wood’ has locked a new release date. The upcoming action drama will arrive in theatres on November 20, 2026, the makers announced on Friday.

The film was originally scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on October 16. However, Dhanush announced last month that the release would be postponed to avoid arriving just a day after Rajinikanth’s ‘Jailer 2’, which is scheduled to release on October 15.

Dhanush had also confirmed that ‘OM’ would stay away from the Diwali release window, as Suriya’s ‘Scene’ had already announced its release date for the festival period. The actor said the makers wanted to respect the dates announced by the other films and avoid a clash between major releases.

With the new date now locked, ‘OM’ is set to bring together Dhanush and Mammootty on screen for the first time. Directed by Rajkumar Periasamy of ‘Amaran’ fame, the film also features Sai Pallavi, Sreeleela, Naseeruddin Shah and Indrans in key roles.

Dhanush is producing the film under his Wunderbar Films banner along with Shraddha Agrawal and Azmat Jagmag, with RTake Studios also backing the project. Sai Abhyankkar has composed the music for the film, while Ezhil Arasu K has handled the cinematography and R Kalaivanan is the editor.
