Jana Nayagan, the swansong movie of Tamil Nadu CM Vijay, is here in theatres. The film was earlier embroiled in controversy after the censor board refused to issue a certificate.
Though critics rated the movie as average, the theatres are packed, with all shows sold out. However, questions are being raised on social media about the remuneration received by the stars, including Vijay, for the film.
According to reports, Vijay, who is also the Chief Minister, is said to have received between Rs 220 and 275 crores for the movie. This is the highest remuneration for an actor in Tamil cinema. This film marks the end of Vijay’s 30-year acting career.
The film's director H Vinoth is said to have received a remuneration of Rs 25 crores. This is the highest remuneration received by a director. Music director Anirudh received a remuneration of Rs 13 crores for Jana Nayagan. Anirudh, who composed music for many recent blockbusters in Tamil cinema including 'Leo' and 'Jailer', is now one of the highest-paid music directors.
Pooja Hegde, who played the female lead, reportedly received a fee of Rs 6 crore, while Bobby Deol, who played the lead, received a fee of Rs 5 crore to Rs 10 crore. According to reports, other actors also received good remuneration. Prakash Raj received Rs 5 crore, Priyamani received Rs 3 crore, Gautham Vasudev Menon received Rs 3 crore, and Narain received Rs 2.5 crore. Mamita Baiju's remuneration is reported to be between Rs 60 lakh and Rs 2 crore, according to different reports.
