KOCHI: Actress Ansiba Hassan has launched a strong attack against actor Tini Tom, alleging that he attempted to defame her by highlighting her religious identity to settle personal scores. She said people like Tini Tom pose a threat to society and live behind a "mask of hypocrisy." She made the remarks while speaking to reporters in Kochi after appearing at the Thrikkakara ACP Office in connection with a complaint she had filed against actress Lakshmi Priya and Thrippunithura woman Sub-Inspector V.R. Reshma.
"Tini Tom did not wrong me alone; he wronged a secular society like Kerala," Ansiba said.
"When they could not find anything against me, they thought my name, 'Ansiba Hassan,' could be used as a weapon. It sent a wrong message to society. Fortunately, this is Kerala, and people understood the truth," she said.
She further alleged that the accusations against her could have had serious consequences.
"He must face the consequences of what he did. If those who fabricated the story had not later changed their statements, I could have ended up in jail on charges as serious as anti-national activities," Ansiba said.
The controversy began after Tini Tom allegedly claimed, both within and outside the actors' association AMMA, that Ansiba had tried to convert the son of film production controller Rajeev Kudappanakkunnu to another religion and branded her a "jihadi." However, Rajeev and his son later publicly stated that the allegations were false.
Ansiba also reiterated that she has no faith in the current executive committee of AMMA, where she previously served as joint secretary.
"How can I expect justice from a committee that includes a president who supports the accused and a vice-president who filed a false complaint against me?" she asked.
According to Ansiba, the association agreed to hear her complaint only because of pressure from the media. She also demanded the formation of an independent and unbiased committee to investigate the matter. Ansiba said she had suggested the names of actress Mala Parvathy, actor Ramesh Pisharody, and actor Dhyan Sreenivasan for such a panel, but claimed that no response had been received from the organisation so far.
