Case of hacking woman to death for rejecting love; youth in custody attempts suicide

MANGLURU: The youth, who hacked a woman to death for rejecting his love, has consumed rat poison. Chethan from Odilnala in Belthangady of Dakshina Kannada, attempted suicide by consuming poison while in police custody. He was admitted to the hospital after he revealed of consuming poison. The dead is Lavanya (21), daughter of Balappa Gowda of Uligram in Bantwal. The police' initial conclusion is that the reason for the murder was his anger over Lavanya's rejection of his love proposal several times.

The woman was hacked to death with a machete by Chethan at the KSRTC bus stand in B C Road Thursday evening. Lavanya was an employee of a private hospital and was on

her way back home when the incident happened. He attacked her when she was waiting for the bus. When the accused took the machete from his bag, Lavanya tried to run from there, but he chased and hacked her to death. After committing the crime, he fled from the spot leaving the weapon there. Lavanya, who was seriously injured, was immediately taken to the Bantwal Government Hospital, but she succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
