NEW DELHI: Reports say CBSE may scrap the Onscreen Marking (OSM) evaluation system for Class 12 examinations. It is heard that a decision regarding this is likely to be made in the CBSE General Body meeting. CBSE was compelled to consider abandoning OSM following widespread complaints last year.
The authorities had stated last year that OSM (onscreen marking) would be implemented in Class 10 from this year onwards. Normally, the Class 12 exams begin in February. With barely three months left for the exams to commence, students and parents are in deep anxiety due to the lack of clarity regarding OSM.
Widespread complaints were raised against the onscreen marking system last year. It was alleged that errors occurred in the evaluation of answer sheets and that some answer sheets were not assessed correctly. Although CBSE initially rejected this, they finally had to admit the mistake as there were ample evidences.
Meantime, CBSE has not declared the exam timetable yet. Compared to last year's schedule, the timetable announcement is quite delayed this time. CBSE published the provisional timetable for last year's board exams on September 24, 2025. Following that, the final timetable was published on October 30, 2025.
Last year, the provisional timetable was published 146 days before the commencement of the examinations. This enabled both students and schools to plan their exam preparations well in advance. It is heard that the timetable will be released by next week.
