First big test for Chief Minister Vijay: EC announces bypolls to two assembly seats in Tamil Nadu

CHENNAI: The first by-elections after the Vijay-led TVK government took office in Tamil Nadu will take place soon. The Election Commission announced by-elections in two constituencies where AIADMK MLAs resigned. Polling will be held in Dharapuram and Madurai constituencies on October 6, and counting of votes on October 9.

In the last election, TVK came second in Madurai and DMK in Dharapuram. Meanwhile, by-elections have not been announced in five constituencies, including Tiruchirappalli East, which Vijay vacated.

By-elections are being held in five constituencies in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and West Bengal. Voting for the Lok Sabha constituency in Assam will also be held along with it. The by-elections are for Thattanchavadi in Puducherry, Rejinagar and Nandigram in West Bengal. Along with this, by-elections have been announced in Assam's Nagon parliamentary constituency. Nomination papers can be submitted from the 16th of this month. Scrutiny of papers will be held on 17th of this month. The last date for withdrawal of nomination papers is the 19th of this month.
