Counterfeit bottled water using popular brand name seized during train inspection; passengers advised to stay alert

LUCKNOW: Fake bottled drinking water and other unauthorised food products are reportedly being sold widely to passengers on trains. Railway officials recently seized 12 boxes of bottled water stored for sale on the Begampura Express at Sultanpur Railway Station.

During the inspection, officials found that the bottles were being sold using fake labels of the popular water brand Bisleri. According to authorities, ordinary tap water collected in unhygienic conditions was filled into bottles and then sealed with counterfeit Bisleri labels before being sold to passengers.

Officials said similar fake products had been seized earlier as well. During the same period last year, food safety officials recovered 13,076 litres of counterfeit bottled drinking water from Gautam Buddha Nagar.

Authorities have now warned passengers to remain alert while purchasing bottled water and food products during train journeys. Officials also expressed concern over the safety of drinking water sold under fake brand names. The World Health Organisation has warned that contaminated water can cause serious health issues such as vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach pain, and dehydration.
