SRINAGAR: A migrant worker was killed and another critically injured after terrorists opened fire on two migrant workers in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday evening.
The incident took place in Kellam village of Kulgam, where the two migrant workers came under fire from the terrorists. One of them died on the spot, while the injured worker was shifted to a hospital for treatment.
Following the attack, security forces launched a search operation in the area to track down the terrorists.
This is the second terrorist attack in Kashmir in the past 10 days. A police officer was killed in an attack in Anantnag last week. Following the incident, police conducted widespread searches across the Kashmir Valley and detained several people.
However, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had warned that such mass detentions could only worsen the situation.
Heavy security arrangements have been put in place across Jammu and Kashmir amid the ongoing Amarnath Yatra. In addition to the existing security deployment, 670 additional companies of paramilitary forces have been deployed for the security of the pilgrimage.
