Girls seen drinking alcohol at government school: Principal transferred, probe ordered

KANYAKUMARI: A video purportedly showing schoolgirls drinking alcohol on the premises of Thuckalay Government Higher Secondary School in Kanyakumari district has surfaced on social media, prompting the district administration to order an inquiry. The students are seen in school uniforms consuming alcohol and eating food in the video. The footage also contains conversations about alcohol and food brought from outside. One of the students is heard asking why the video was being recorded.

The incident reportedly took place on Saturday, August 1, after a special coaching class conducted at the school. The school also conducts coaching for entrance examinations, including NEET, QEET and JEE, according to reports.

After the video circulated on social media, the Kanyakumari District Collector directed the Education Department to investigate the incident. Officials have been asked to ascertain when the footage was recorded, whether the individuals seen in it are students of the school, how alcohol allegedly entered the campus and whether there were lapses in supervision.

As an immediate administrative measure, school principal Pramila Evangeline was transferred to Vadassery Government Higher Secondary School in Nagercoil. A detailed inquiry is underway, and further action is expected based on its findings.
