Major accident in S J Suryah’s film set; one dies while filming blast sequence

One was killed in a cylinder explosion at the shooting set of 'Killer' starring S J Suryah and Preethi Asrani. The accident happened while shooting a bomb blast sequence.
The dead has been identified as Madhan (26) of Madurai and a technician. Madhan, who was seriously injured in the accident, was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, but his life could not be saved. Four crew members were also injured in the accident. Dinakaran (24), Suriya (23), Sakthivel (27) and Ram Pandey (34) were injured. They are being treated at the Rajiv Gandhi General Hospital in Chennai.


The explosion occurred while shooting a fight scene at Binny Mills in Otteri (Perambur) near Chennai early Wednesday morning. The explosion occurred while transferring carbon dioxide gas from a large cylinder to another cylinder to shoot the scenes.


The Tamil Nadu police have registered a case and started an investigation into the incident. The police are investigating whether proper safety standards were followed on the set and what the real cause of the explosion was. An investigation is also underway to determine whether the explosives were used with proper permission.
