KOCHI: Malayali executive T V Narendran is among those being considered for the post of chairman of Tata Sons, the holding company of the Tata Group. Narendran, currently the Managing Director and CEO of Tata Steel, has family roots in Chendamangalam in Ernakulam district. The 61-year-old is the grandson of Ikkanda Warrier, who served as the Prime Minister of the erstwhile independent Kingdom of Cochin.

Narendran has 38 years of experience with the Tata Group and is credited with helping Tata Steel recover from a difficult period. The current Tata Sons chairman, N Chandrasekaran, is due to step down in February next year. After Chandrasekaran indicated that he did not wish to be considered for another term, the Tata Trusts have begun the process of identifying his successor.

Apart from Narendran, Tata Power CEO Praveer Sinha, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles CEO Shailesh Chandra and Tata Chemicals CEO R Mukundan are also reportedly being considered for the post.
