Modi completes longest continuous term as Indian Prime Minister; cabinet congratulates PM

NEW DELHI: The Union Cabinet has congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi after he surpassed Jawaharlal Nehru’s record for the longest continuous tenure as Prime Minister. According to the government, Modi completed 4,399 consecutive days in office, exceeding Nehru’s record of 4,398 days. A resolution was passed during a Cabinet meeting to congratulate the Prime Minister, with ministers standing and applauding the achievement. The Prime Minister later expressed his gratitude.

The resolution stated that the milestone reflects the "unwavering support of the people" for a leader guided by the principle of "Nation First." It also expressed confidence that under his leadership, India will become a developed nation by 2047.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, in his congratulatory message, said that the Prime Minister's biggest achievement has been ensuring the safety of citizens and restoring national pride and dignity. Vice President CP Radhakrishnan and several Union Ministers also extended their greetings.

World leaders extend greetings
Several global leaders also congratulated the Prime Minister, including the Prime Ministers and Presidents of Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Nigeria, Maldives, Kenya, South Korea, Italy, Denmark, Cyprus, Greece, Germany, Papua New Guinea, and Trinidad and Tobago.

NDA meeting praises strong leadership
An NDA meeting of Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers, held in Delhi as part of the central government’s 12th anniversary celebrations, described Prime Minister Modi as a strong leader capable of implementing bold reforms.

A resolution marking his record tenure was passed at the meeting, highlighting his ability to overcome challenges through decisive leadership. The proposal was moved by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and supported by leaders including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, constituent party leaders Jitan Ram Manjhi, H.D. Kumaraswamy, Eknath Shinde, Chirag Paswan, and Jayant Chaudhary. Union Minister Anupriya Patel read out the resolution.

‘Nation is bigger than party,’ says PM
Responding to the recognition, Prime Minister Modi said that he finds it easier to take decisions because he believes the nation is greater than any political party. He said that many decisions once considered impossible were successfully implemented, citing the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir as an example. He added that more decisions in the national interest would follow in the future.
