He said the team's success would further boost the popularity of hockey across the country. Modi shared his message on X.

The entire country is celebrating the victory of the Indian women's hockey team, which won the Asian Games gold medal after a wait of more than four decades. This achievement is the result of outstanding talent and teamwork. The team's determination is equally inspiring. I extend my best wishes to the team for its upcoming competitions. I hope this victory will further increase the popularity of hockey across the country,” Modi said.
India defeated China 1-0 in the women's hockey final to win the gold medal. It was India's first women's hockey gold at the Asian Games since 1982. The victory also secured India's qualification for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
