NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s event in Gujarat has reportedly become a major hit on the BookMyShow app, with free tickets for the programme selling out within an hour. The ‘NaMo for Viksit Bharat’ programme was held at the Maharaja Sayajirao University (MSU) Pavilion Ground in Vadodara. With around 42,000 people placed on the waiting list, ticket bookings through the app were stopped.
Bookings opened at 5 pm, and around 6,000 people, including students, registered to attend the event. This was reportedly the first time a private app was used to provide access to an event featuring the Prime Minister in India.
Only those with tickets containing the QR code issued at the time of registration were allowed entry. ‘Fan zones’ were also arranged for those who could not get seats in the main venue. The event marked the launch of projects worth more than Rs 35,000 crore.
In 2019, more than 50,000 people registered online for the ‘Howdy, Modi’ community event attended by Modi in Houston, US. The ‘Melbourne Meets Modi’ community event in Australia also received a strong response through online registrations.
A ramp was set up to allow people to get a closer view of Modi during the event. The programme was filmed using 4K cameras, with the aim of attracting young audiences on social media. The event also featured television coverage at an international standard, similar to the broadcasting of football and cricket matches.
Apart from those who booked tickets, professionals including lawyers, doctors, chartered accountants and teachers were invited to the event, along with industrialists and members of the Vadodara Chamber of Commerce and Industries (VCCI). Young leaders and students also took part in the programme.
