AMARAVATHI: A fight broke out between female students of a nursing college over a missing mobile phone. The incident happened at the S K Nursing College in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, on Saturday night. The clash was between the local Telugu students and students from north eastern states.
The clash started after a mobile of a student of north eastern state went missing after she left it to charge on August 21. When searched through a tracking app, it was found to be in the same area. The suspicion that another student may have stolen the phone strengthened. The students demand to catch the thief led to a verbal altercation with the local students.
Although the authorities intervened in the matter, the students of north eastersn states alleged that it was discriminatory. Meanwhile, the local students detained the students of north eastern states in the hostel rooms. Amidst the fight, footage emerged of students throwing buckets, utensils and shoes at each other and beating each other with sticks.
When the fight escalated, the police intervened and shifted the students of north eastern states to another building. Some students were seriously injured in the attack. Former chief minister N Biren Singh also intervened in the incident. He said the involvement of students from north eastern states, including from Manipur, in the SK College clash is a matter of concern and asked Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to intervene in the matter.
The office of the chief minister then informed that directions were given to senior officials to resolve the clash. The District Collector, SP and others reached the spot and took steps to ensure the safety of the students.
