CHENNAI: A tiger killed and ate an estate worker in Gudalur. The dead has been identified as Balakrishnan Marutha (65), who was working in an estate in O’Valley near Gudalur district.

Balakrishnna, who had gone to the tea plantation on Saturday evening, went missing later. A search conducted found the remains of a body partially eaten by the tiger about 500 meters away from the pump house.

He lived in a paddy field in Laurenston, adjacent to the forest. Locals in the area are protesting strongly, alleging that the forest department is being indifferent to the increasing number of wild animals.
