TVK local leader hacked to death in broad daylight in Tamil Nadu, CCTV footage surfaces

Chennai: A local leader of Tamil Nadu's ruling party, TVK, was brutally murdered in broad daylight on a busy road. The deceased has been identified as Kannan.

The incident took place last night on the stretch between Adyar and Thiruvanmiyur. Shocking CCTV footage of the attack has since surfaced, showing a group surrounding Kannan while he was talking on the phone by the roadside. The assailants repeatedly attacked him with swords and continued the assault even after he collapsed. Onlookers who tried to step in and save him were threatened with weapons and chased away.

Kannan, a real estate businessman with several criminal cases against him, was formerly associated with the AIADMK before recently joining the TVK. According to the police, Kannan was involved in the 2009 murder of a man named Shiva, and this latest attack is believed to be a revenge killing planned by a gang led by Shiva's nephew. Police have arrested five people in connection with the crime.

Meanwhile, the incident has sparked political controversy. Opposition Leader Udhayanidhi Stalin blamed the murder on the breakdown of law and order in the state. He pointed out that the crime occurred just a day before Chief Minister Vijay is set to address the Legislative Assembly regarding police requirements and state law enforcement.
