KATHMANDU: Two people have been arrested in Nepal for stealing gold earrings from the body of a woman that washed ashore during floods. The arrested have been identified as Madan Gurung (25) and Umesh Chaudhary (38). The incident came to light after videos showing the two removing the earrings from the woman’s body went viral on social media.

A 41-second video shows two people using wooden logs to bring a body to the shore. They then hold the body by the hair and remove its earrings. Police identified the suspects after examining the footage shared on social media by people who were present at the spot. The two were arrested on Thursday from the Pokhara bus park area in Bharatpur.

Police said the earrings were stolen from the body of a flood victim whose body had been swept away into the Narayani River. The police said that looting victims or engaging in any other inhumane acts targeting people suffering from the devastating floods would not be tolerated.
