KOCHI: A decline in Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transactions in India has been recorded ahead of the proposed introduction of the Merchant Discount Rate (MDR). UPI transactions fell 1.8% to 2,407 crore in September, compared with 2,451 crore transactions in August.
At the same time, the total value of UPI transactions increased 1.5% to Rs 29.47 lakh crore. Banking sector sources said the decline in transaction volume could be an indication of concerns among merchants over the introduction of MDR.
