NEW DELHI: Chinese President Xi Jinping on Saturday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit and said India and China can learn from each other’s strengths and work together to achieve shared development.
Xi arrived in India for a two-day visit to attend the BRICS Summit, marking his first visit to the country in seven years. Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed Xi to India and thanked China for its support during India’s BRICS presidency. Modi said the meeting provided an opportunity to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.
Xi noted that he had met Modi 21 times in previous years and said these meetings had helped put India-China relations on a path of steady development.
While India and China face different circumstances, the two countries can learn from each other’s strengths, support one another and work together for common development, Xi said.
He also said that as the world’s two most populous countries and major members of South Asia, India and China have important responsibilities. Xi called on both countries to play a more constructive role in promoting world peace, stability, development and prosperity.
