Elderly man found dead inside house in Alappuzha; hands and legs tied

ALAPPUZHA: A 67-year-old man was found dead inside his rented house at Karuvatta in Alappuzha. The deceased, Sivankutty, was found with his hands and legs tied together and a rope around his neck.

Sivankutty was alone at home at the time of the incident. His wife and other family members were at Vandanam Hospital in connection with their daughter's delivery. On Monday morning, his granddaughter came to the house and repeatedly called out to him, but he did not open the door. She then informed the neighbours. Local residents broke open the door and found Sivankutty dead inside the house.

Fingerprint experts and a dog squad later arrived at the scene and carried out an inspection. Police suspect that the death may have occurred during a robbery. Around six sovereigns of gold, including jewellery worn by Sivankutty and gold kept inside the house, are reportedly missing. The Haripad police have registered a case and launched an investigation. Sivankutty is survived by his wife, Saraswathy, and daughters, Sashikala and Sreekala.
