KOCHI: A Class 11 student was allegedly assaulted by a group of senior students after he questioned ragging at a school in Ernakulam. The incident took place at St. Thomas School, Keezhillam, where around 20 Class 12 students allegedly dragged the 16-year-old into a toilet and brutally assaulted him.
The victim's parents have lodged a complaint with the Kuruppampady police. According to the complaint, the attack was triggered after the student objected to ragging taking place on the school campus. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation.
Authorities said the increasing incidents of ragging and violence against students in schools are a matter of serious concern. They added that strict legal action will be taken against those found responsible. Police are also investigating whether there was any lapse on the part of the school authorities in preventing the incident. The incident has renewed calls for stricter awareness programmes and stronger vigilance at the school level to prevent violence and ragging among students.
