‘Won’t spare you even if you beg’: Rape accused threatens survivor and relatives

MALAPPURAM: The relatives of a woman who filed a sexual assault complaint against a man have alleged that they received death threats from him. The accused, Abdul Azeem (30), a native of Tirur and an accused in several other cases, allegedly threatened the survivor and her family members in Munniyur under Tirurangadi taluk. According to the survivor's family, Azeem allegedly warned that he would not spare them if he found them in the dark, even if they cried and begged for mercy.

The Tirurangadi police arrested Azeem in connection with the alleged threats. According to the complaint, he abused the survivor's relatives and issued death threats. The family also alleged that he sent the survivor messages threatening to kill her. The survivor had earlier accused Azeem of sexually assaulting her, recording the incident on his mobile phone and threatening to release the visuals. She further alleged that he extorted gold jewellery from her by threatening to make the visuals public.

A family friend of the survivor said the accused had also threatened to wipe out the family after his release. The threats allegedly came after the survivor's family filed a police complaint. The family further alleged that Azeem claimed the sexual assault was part of a larger network and that being a KAAPA case accused, such matters were not a big issue for him. They also alleged that he warned them that the world would not end that day. Police said a detailed investigation into the incident would be carried out.
